Our Story

Crystal Clear PR was founded by Heidi Turner (then Heidi Hatherell) in 2009 with a clear purpose. To help businesses across North Queensland showcase what they do best, shine a light on the (often underestimated) experiences our region has to offer, and advocate for the opportunities we all know exist here.

What started as a marketing and communications business has, over time, evolved into a trusted advisory practice. Today, Crystal Clear PR works alongside organisations across government, industry, business and community, helping them navigate complexity, engage the right people and move things forward.

Over the past 17 years, the business has worked with more than 200 organisations across the region. Many of these relationships have become long-term partnerships, some spanning more than 15 years. Like many businesses, Crystal Clear adapted during COVID. What emerged was a more flexible, network-led model, bringing together trusted local specialists to deliver the right expertise for each project. It’s an approach that reflects how work actually gets done in the regions. Collaboratively, practically and with the right people involved at the right time.

During this period, while continuing to operate Crystal Clear, Heidi stepped into the role of CEO of the Townsville Chamber of Commerce for two years. There, she worked closely with businesses across the region, strengthening their voice, advocating for better outcomes and contributing to important conversations about the future of North Queensland.

In late 2025, Heidi returned to Crystal Clear full-time. And today she works closely with clients across the region, bringing clear thinking, practical advice and a strong understanding of how to get things done in the north.

Heidi Turner

Founder | Strategic Advisor | Non-Executive Director

Heidi Turner is a strategic communications, stakeholder engagement and marketing advisor with more than 30 years’ experience across Australia, the UK and Europe. She is known for delivering trusted, politically astute advice grounded in sound judgement and an optimistic, practical approach, particularly in complex environments.

A proactive connector, Heidi works across government, industry, media and community to build alignment and move things forward. Her experience spans a broad range of industries, with expertise in stakeholder engagement, governance, advocacy, regional economic development, crisis and reputation management, and communications-led change.

Since founding Crystal Clear PR in 2009, Heidi has worked with more than 200 organisations, providing strategic advice, hands-on support and coaching across communications, engagement, marketing and crisis management.

For two years, while continuing to operate her business, she served as CEO of the Townsville Chamber of Commerce, leading significant organisational renewal and membership growth, strengthening industry–government relationships and contributing to advocacy on key regional issues, including insurance affordability across Northern Australia, connectivity, crime and the cost of doing business.

Heidi is committed to our community and brings more than 17 years’ board and advisory experience across infrastructure, health, education, transport, arts, national sport and the not-for-profit sector in North Queensland. She currently serves as a Non-Executive Director of the Port of Townsville, a Board Member of The Cure Starts Now Australia, and a member of the Queensland Government’s Regional Jobs Committee for North Queensland, hosted by Regional Development Australia.
